Stoves in Smoke Control Areas

In many UK towns and cities, Smoke Control Areas have been established to reduce harmful emissions and improve air quality. These zones, introduced under the Clean Air Acts of 1956 and 1968, give local authorities the power to restrict smoke from residential and industrial properties. If you live in one of these areas, you’ll need a stove that is DEFRA-exempt if you want to burn wood.
